Making Connections - The Key to Performance Improvement
Emotional Intelligence - Getting to the Heart of Performance
by Byron Stock
When attendee rankings of the 394 speakers at this conference were tabulated, Byron came out on top. Below is the letter he received inviting him to deliver an Encore Presentation of this session at the 2001 Annual Conference and Expo in San Francisco, California.
Background
The International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) is the leading association dedicated to improving human performance in the workplace. The following comments are from participants who attended Byron's presentation at the Annual Conference and Expo on April 13, 2000.
I liked this session because:
Clear content, well presented. It applied to me and mine.
At last a session with PARTICIPATION! Have Byron teach this to lecturing presenters.
Very interesting.
It gave me good background for my research.
Applicable to work place problems.
Looking forward to new material on this topic next year.
Proved factual data to what I suspected. (Gave ways to address).
Open/honest presentation.
I liked this session because of the speaker.
I liked this session because of the knowledgeable speaker. I liked the technical approach.
It was useful, practical, tested, and well presented.
It had many things for me to think about and explore. Very personal applications.
It helped me see what EI is, and why it's important at work and personally.
The presenter, Byron Stock was excellent!
The presenter was humorous.
High energy and thought provoking.
Very engaging, very fulfilled. Made me feel happy!
Participant Comments:
Again proves that interaction with audience is the best approach.
Excellent. I'd read the book, awhile ago but you made it easier to understand and appreciate.
Know the problem - but have to divorce a product to do anything about it.
Make this session more of a workshop to use EI/stress reduction techniques.
Good presentation.
Excellent - we need to talk about this more.
Need more applied knowledge.
Excellent! The best I've been too!
Interesting presenter.
I want to know more.
This is extremely important to me on a personal level.
This class is a must. The topic is hot and extremely on target.
Byron Stock is an excellent speaker!
Great session.
This was excellent.
Byron is a very compelling speaker. Good content.
The BEST session I have attended during the ISPI conference.
I had been sorely disappointed with the conference until coming to this presentation.
Very useful information, an extremely gifted presenter.
Great session.
Far better than expected.
I would like to have practiced how to improve emotional intelligence.
You said this isn't based on psychological research but medical research. Theory is, but outcome data (psychometric) is self report (psychometric research). It would be more accurate (and less derogatory to psychological research) to admit that actually, dual measures make it more powerful. As a cognitive researcher, I felt the comparison was negative. Thanks!
Great session!
Very relevant. One possible improvement, a clever link to HPT model.
I would have liked more on emotional hi-jacking - examples, how to handle it, etc. It is a good presentation and interesting, but not what I really need practicality-wise. More focus on emotions in training and teaching.
More handouts.
Thank you.
