Three Programs
Large Government Organization
September, 2002 - November, 2003

Introduction

Three Enhancing Personal Effectiveness™ by Developing Emotional Intelligence Skills programs were conducted for a large government agency between September 2002 and November 2003:
#1 - September, 2002 to January, 2003 - 51 total participants (two groups)
#2 - April, 2003 to July, 2003 - 61 total participants (two groups)
#3 - August, 2003 to November 2003 - 28 total participants (one group)

The Enhancing Personal Effectiveness (EPE) Program is a multi-contact program designed to provide specific techniques people can use to enhance their existing Emotional Intelligence skills. The program supports participants in the application of those techniques back on the job and in their personal lives. As a part of the program, Byron Stock & Associates LLC conducts impact interviews with a sample of the participants to determine program results. Below are impact interview participant responses to the final interview question, "What would you tell other executives/managers about the EPE program?" (See the Results section to learn more about program results.)

What would you tell other executives/managers about the EPE program?
Thank you for allowing us to participate in the program. It has truly brought me to another level in my professional and personal life. I look at people differently. I have more awareness into my approach with employees, and it has helped me look at me and look deep inside to improve. I will have an improvement every day if I apply it.

It is beneficial - it is something that all employees need help in personal and work life. The program helps them get that balance

The program is great. It helped me to be a 100% better person. It helped me get to where I am now. The tools help me control my emotions without overreacting. They help me channel things in a positive way. I'm a better person - not snap foolish. I'm very proud of myself. It has helped me listen to and value others and their thoughts and perceptions. I enjoyed the program. I like the tools. As I get more into it, it can make me much better.

The program is very beneficial. Do not change the initial concept - let it be what it was intended to be. Model the concepts of the course - don't do things like "Ruthless Accountability." Don't fall back to the old ways and old culture.

I appreciate the opportunity. I firmly believe it has some real solid benefits as to how you interact and treat yourself and look at things differently and try to work through a problem and not around it. If you use the techniques, they are really solidly beneficial to you.

I could be having stomach pains and bent over. Now I really have much less of that - so I'm more productive. There are a lot of by-products of the program. One is to improve the performance of the organization. If I can improve, the organization can improve.

The course reminded me of things we all need to be reminded of. It also introduced me to some powerful tools that are basic to all relationships. They counteract the negative, and build on the positive. That is important because (our organization) gets mired in us-vs-them, operations-vs-customer service. We are coming together as the (organization) to serve our customers.

If nothing else, I suggest to try the program and see. There were benefits to me and the team. It helped in my personal life and helped me be more productive in my work life.

I miss the closeness we had in the last session. We need more follow-up. Everyone needs to hear people's stories. I recommend the program be presented to the supervisors who report to me so they understand the language. They need to just learn 1-2 tools, especially the (core) technique and appreciation.

This is an excellent program. Don't pass it up. It is good for your health and to improve your management skills. I can't think of anything to improve the program. (Maybe send more heart quotes.)

It' s a good process. It can help improve performance and their lives and the quality of their lives.

Everyone needs to go to the class. I tell people now what I picked up. It would be very positive for them - positive for your personal life. It's the best class I've ever had in (this organization). I can use it in any place or situation. It is applicable everywhere. It helps me professionally and personally. That old mentality is gone. There is time to change. I've changed my management techniques. Everybody wants to work for me.

It's definitely an outstanding program. You learn more about yourself, and the techniques make it easier to control what is happening and how you deal with others. It all stems from your emotions. Taking the course and using the techniques makes your job a lot easier.

Do you want to save your life!? It is something that is life changing. It will improve your lifestyle and your health. It will improve your relationships. That is what has happened to me. It helps you think, calm down, communicate, and listen. It gives us the tools to handle all aspects of communication. It helps us resolve things and get better. If you want to live a stress-free life, come to this class.

If you haven't had it, request it. If you're having problems working for the (organization), you need to know how to control your emotions. When you can, you will see things differently. Problems will be lighter and easier to handle. Most of our problems are stress. We have the same issues day in and day out. What determines our productivity is how we react to stress. The program gives you a new outlook on life - a new way to deal with stress. You can communicate with employees better and respond from your heart. It works better for everyone. Your heart is more humane. It's helped me in my life. It's not difficult. It speaks for itself.

I do tell other people! I tell my supervisors. I tell them to keep their fingers crossed that they will get the EPE training. I tell them how much of a positive impact it has had on me. They were aware of relationship with me and two of my colleagues. I've shared the techniques with all supervisors. It is very, very worthwhile. I appreciate being selected to participate. It is win-win and no losing. I appreciate the weekly reminders too.

You need to take this program. It makes you aware you can't live on negative emotion. We all need guidance. It's for anybody. It's really made a difference for me.

It is good to learn about yourself and enhance your own development. I'm less stressed, more calm. I approach situations with mental clarity. I have more ideas. You can calm yourself quickly and come up with solutions. It is self-improvement. You can become more content with yourself. It will help you enhance your communication skills.

It's a very good program, but you have to practice the techniques to improve your shortcomings.

From time to time in certain areas in (our organization), we've been exposed or subjected to a lot of programs, including Covey. This program is really good and really works and you can measure your own improvement. I highly recommend the program. You (the facilitators) are really in there and always there to help and interested in everybody. You really care and are concerned.

I have talked to other people. One of most important things the program teaches you is how to get past emotional responses imprinted throughout growing up. You actually do things to improve and get around it (this imprint) to make decisions with your head and heart. It is O.K. to bring sincere care into the workplace. Sincere care is really important. People know when it's sincere care. It's great stuff.

This is a good program. It puts work and home life in perspective. It differentiates between the two and puts them in perspective. It helps you understand others. It makes you more aware of other individuals and that your view is not the only view. It makes you aware that others may be acting and reacting based on issues you're not aware of. It makes you more of a human to other humans. It makes you realize that everybody is in this together.

It's a great program to become focused to work as a team with everyone. It teaches you how to decrease stress and pressure without retaliation and how to get people involved. It is an excellent program. If you get the opportunity to find out how to go through the program, do it. There is twofold help - in your personal life and on the job. And it helps you to be a healthier person, well rounded, very approachable and respected by your subordinates as well as superiors.

Excellent. I am hoping the district takes it to the supervisor level. I have shared some of the program with my team. I've put the music on and shown them how to go to a quiet place before we come together and decide how to accomplish a task. The program provides excellent tools for you to use to manage your emotions. I can work for 8 hours (vs. 12) and still be as productive. I'm not carrying that additional level of frustration. And my people can see that in me. And I feel hope that this will be taken to the supervisory level. The program is beneficial - beneficial both personally and professionally.

Embrace it and really enjoy it. It has benefits that are irreplaceable. There is such a reward with taking this class. It helps you to really feel good about yourself. Once you feel good about yourself, you can pretty much do anything. I would recommend it.

I have told co-workers and friends about the program. The program is extremely effective. It's hard to explain how it works because when you describe the tools they seem very simple. But they're very powerful. Byron is such a model for the program. You get the genuineness from Byron and Steve. We have had other consultants, but Byron's group surpasses the other groups.

It is a great program. It helps you see why sometimes you feel that you're stressed when you really aren't. You don't see what is necessarily around you. If you are stressed, you can use the tools to calm down and think better about things. And it will help lower your blood pressure. I still pick up the book and read it.

EPE is a very dynamic and interesting concept. It gives you the opportunity to look at yourself and the way you react in different environments. I've found that the techniques are very, very valuable and helpful.

It would be hard for me not to use these tools now. There are so many useful ones that make a difference when you practice them. They make a difference in a nice way. This is my magic toolbox, my ace in the hole. There's a lot of benefit to realizing they're there. It's wonderful to have this toolbox you can draw on the functional part of your day.

It's a good program and it's helping me. I've still got to work on some things, but the tools really do work when you try.

Overall it's a very effective program. It's valuable for personal as well as business life. I find it a great way to relax and calm down. My supervisor said the other day that she used to think I lived for the job and now the job is just a part of my life. I think that's good.

If you want to be fruitful and gain a pleasant lifestyle and have less stress, go through this program.
