Introducton
From February 2006 through June 2006, a High Performance Leadership - Maximizing the Power of Emotional Intelligence Program
was facilitated for a large transportation system's Senior Leadership Team (CEO, COO, CFO, CIO, Presidents, Vice Presidents, etc.).
A total of 13 participants were trained. Nine participants (70% sample) participated in the end of course impact interviews.
Following are impact interview responses to the final question of the impact interview.
(See Results for more detail on program results.)
If you could tell organizational executives, leaders, and managers about the High Performance Leadership program, what would you say?
It has had a positive impact in almost all areas. Because it has allowed me to do those things in a seamless, less stress, more inclusive manner. The benefits are directly proportional to what you put into it and your use of the techniques. Most importantly, the improvement in what I have seen in stress is well worth it. We want happy people working for us. People need to look at this not just as a work opportunity, but a life thing. I hope we provide it for other groups because it can be helpful. I appreciate the one-on-one coaching sessions. It has encouraged me to stick with it.
Go in with an open mind. No matter how emotionally intelligent you are, you will get benefit out of this. If you don't manage stress well or overreact or want to make improvement, this session will present techniques to do that. I'm confident they will see benefit.
Give it a chance. It will not be like some training where you go in and you have learned something. You have to take ownership and responsibility to do the things. You have to practice it and bring it into your daily activity.
To a large extent the course is what you make of it. The real benefits to be gotten are after the program. So it is up to you. If you are willing to put forth the effort, there are benefits to be realized. If not, then it's not a very satisfying program.
Do not be judgmental. Listen carefully to the message and techniques. Give it time and incorporate it into the daily fabric of your life. Realize that you will reap the benefits in relationships and with other people. You will be rewarded mentally and physically and get more satisfaction out of life and balance. There are too many hours and imbalance - you can strike a better equilibrium. Don't have a preconceived notion, make it a part of your daily life; you will be a better manager.
What I have been telling people is it's a program that raises your awareness level of emotion and gives you tools to better manage them throughout the day.
Overall I'm a supporter of the program. It can provide benefits to you personally. It can help you be more aware of yourself and transition yourself to be a more effective leader.
It would be helpful to learn to manage emotions better.
This program has helped me. It has decreased my stress and worry. It has allowed me to be more productive. It has allowed me to have more balance in my life. I would like to thank (our) executives for making me a part of this group and giving me exposure to these techniques that have benefited me tremendously.
